Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at bookings@carluxservicecentre.co.uk if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Most MOT tests take between 40 and 60 minutes. We'll give you a realistic time when you drop off, so you can decide whether to wait in our lounge or head off and we'll call you when it's done.

We'll walk you through every failure item clearly. There's no pressure to have the work done with us — you can take the car elsewhere if you prefer. If you do book repairs with us and the failures are fixed within 10 working days, a partial retest is free.

If your current MOT certificate has not yet expired, you can legally drive the vehicle at your own risk to get it repaired. If the certificate has expired you cannot drive it on public roads except to a pre booked MOT or repair appointment.

A failure means the vehicle does not meet the minimum legal standard and cannot be issued a certificate until fixed. An advisory means a component is legal but showing wear.. it's not a failure now, but may become one before your next test. We'll always flag advisories so you can plan ahead and will provide you with a quotation to ensure trouble free motoring for the foreseeable.

You can book up to one calendar month before your current MOT expires and your new certificate will still carry the same expiry date. So if your MOT expires on 30 July, you can test from 30 June and still get a certificate valid until 30 July next year.

No. You're welcome to wait, or leave the car with us and we'll call or text you with the result. You just need to be authorised to hand over the vehicle. We won't start the test without your permission to proceed.
